Rockford raises city parking fees

Published: Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

ROCKFORD (AP) – Officials in Rockford say the cost of parking in city-owned decks and lots will rise in 2014 to keep up with maintenance costs that have reached $300,000.

City Administrator Jim Ryan says it’s important to invest in the city’s parking system. Two levels of one city parking deck were closed in 2012 because of crumbling concrete pavement.

Hourly rates are climbing from $2 to $5 for one to two hours. Monthly passes at some of the facilities are going up from $53 to $60.

On-street parking for 75 people, mostly downtown residents, is increasing from $10 a year to $10 a month.

A committee that included downtown business owners and residents helped devise the new fee structure.
