I would like to react to the Department of Natural Resources officer shooting the deer. Obviously, the DNR is trigger happy. The deer was hurt and needed some aid.
Mr. Knight, I applaud you for what you did. There may be an over-abundance of deer, but we need to stop shooting every time an animal is hurt or is in a wrong area. This is the second of two times the DNR has been trigger happy in one month.
Mr. Knight had gotten the deer to come to him, and probably felt safe doing that. As the story goes on, the deer was shot in front of a church. Are these people insane or crazy?
I believe the deer had a good chance to live if the DNR would have taken it to the park district because I know they help animals that have been injured. That deer was probably looking for food or shelter. Mr. Knight did his best to keep the deer from being hit by a car.
I believe the deer was not sick. I think the DNR should be retrained before shooting an innocent animal. That deer was somebody’s father, brother, etc. Mr. DNR, it had relatives like you have. What you did was take that deer’s life away from its family.
Bottom line, the DNR needs to put its guns back on the rack and use a different approach.
