DIXON – Arvilla R. Brechon, 98, of Dixon, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Green Acres Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.

She was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Marion Township, Lee County, the daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (Fitzsimmons) Dempsey. She had cooked at the Walnut Tap for 13 years, and had worked at the Victory Cafe. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton, and the Altar and Rosary Society, NAIM, Sterling Moose Club, and the Lee County Senior Center. Arvilla enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, and was an avid dancer.

She married Sylvester Brechon on July 7, 1943, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1971.

She is survived by daughters, Colleen Brechon Vancil and Rhonda Brechon, both of Dixon, and Julie (Kevin) Malach of Sublette; two grandsons, Jason and Nathan Malach; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Malach; two stepgrandchildren, David (Kris) Vancil of Arnold, Mo., and Sheila Vancil Hummel of Dixon; a sister, Joan Christoffersen of Dixon; and a brother, William (Regina) Dempsey of Amboy.

She also was preceded in death by brothers, Earl and Joseph L. Dempsey; sisters, Mary Trumble, Rita Schindler, and Lenore Knoll; and son-in-law, Dennis Vancil.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Bales officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
