IDOT suspends non-emergency roadwork for holidays

Published: Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 6:00 a.m. CST

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — The Illinois Department of Transportation says it's suspending non-emergency roadwork to reduce traffic congestion over the holidays.

Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider says the agency has provided a list of road closures by county on its website.

The suspension of non-emergency work begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday and will last until midnight Wednesday. The same thing will happen starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, through midnight on New Year's Day.

Lane closures could be in effect in some construction zones, depending on the projects.

IDOT says work zone speed limits are still in effect even if construction workers are not present.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
