STERLING – Marvin G. Harms, 88, of Sterling, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home.

Marvin G. Harms was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Deer Grove, the son of Rudolph and Emma (Schultz) Harms. He married Donalee F. Huggins on Nov. 24, 1946, in Rock Falls. She died May 12, 2002. Marvin farmed for many years before going to work at the former Wolohan Lumber Co. in Sterling. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Dennis) Wilburn and Rita (Mike) Schaffer, both of Rock Falls; four grandsons, Scott Claudin of Chicago, Shawn (Sheri) Claudin of North Liberty, Iowa, Shannon Claudin of Rock Falls, and Nathan Schaffer of Chicago; one granddaughter, Stacy Schaffer (Joe Forren and his son, Drew) of Rock Falls; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and two sisters, Ida (Jim) Wink and June Sodaquist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Warren, Kenneth, and Quintin Harms; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Claudin.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Eighth Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Henrietta Milner officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Homes are handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
