Floyd ‘Ray’ Boyer
STERLING – Floyd “Ray” Boyer, 79, of Sterling, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 31, 1934, in Ventura, Calif., the son of Mervel and Annie (Patten) Boyer. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He married Patricia (Miller) Jenkins on Dec. 9, 1977. Ray was employed at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in the furnace department, retiring after 31 years of service. Ray was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. He loved music and playing his harmonica. He was a boxer for many years, with a nickname of “Yama.”
Surviving is his wife, Patricia; three sons, Terry Boyer, Tory Boyer, and Tony (Cheryl) Boyer, all of Rock Falls; three daughters, Tracy (Eloy) Reyes and Taffy (Adoff) Ramos, both of Rock Falls, and Tammy (Glen) Turner of Alabama; one brother, Clarence Boyer of Bradenton, Fla.; one sister, Anna Mae (Jim) Adams of California; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tiffany Boyer; a great-granddaughter, Jade Garza; a daughter-in-law, Alma Boyer; three brothers, Charles “Chopo” Boyer, Mervel “Rusty” Boyer, and Myron “Buster” Boyer; and a stepson, Randy Jenkins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl Reese officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
