America’s bald eagles still need to be protected

In 1973, the Endangered Species Act was approved by Congress and signed into law. At that time, the eagle was on the brink of extinction because of widespread use of DDT.

Because of this act, the bald eagle has made a miraculous recovery. So when I read that the U.S. extended permits to kill eagles, I was outraged.

When I think of going green, it means protecting wildlife and the green spaces they need to survive. In this post-Sept. 11 world, we humans need that space as well to find the beauty around us. Eagles are just a part of that beauty.

While going green, we must consider our wild brothers in the equation. We must keep moving forward in protecting what we almost lost.

Any company that has killed an eagle needs to be held liable and punished for this horrendous act.
