2 Illinois teachers win presidential honor

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — President Barack Obama has honored two teachers from Illinois with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

The White House announced two winning teachers from every state on Friday. The Illinois winners are math teacher Lisa Feltman of Algonquin and science teacher Bryan Lake of Urbana. They'll receive their awards in the coming year in Washington. They also receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.

This year's honorees teach in kindergarten through 6th grade. A panel of scientists, mathematicians and educators select the winners.
