The holiday blues
FRANKLIN GROVE – It's the third Friday of the month. That means it's Blues and Bluegrass night at the H.I. Lincoln Building, 136 N. Elm St. Open stage acoustic gospel, folk, country, blues and bluegrass will be performed, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are accepted to help with the upkeep of the historic building.
Holiday movie marathon

DIXON – Christmas film classics will be screened from 6:30 to 11 tonight at Rosbrook Hall, 107 S. Peoria Ave. Project GenNex is having a "Christmas Movie Nite," featuring the movies "Home Alone" and "A Christmas Story," with showings of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman" and the animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Admission and popcorn are free. Mama Cimino's will have drinks and pizza slices for sale.

See champions crowned
Before boys high school basketball takes a break for the holiday, there are some titles to be won. The championship game in the Forreston Holiday Tournament is scheduled for 8 p.m. today. The West Carroll Tournament championship will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday.
There will be some girls basketball champions decided this weekend, too. Eastland plays for a title in the Pearl City Tournament at 7:30 tonight. And the Polo tournament title game will be played Saturday. Also Saturday, Sterling and five other teams play in the Sterling Shootout, with tipoffs scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
