FREEPORT – Laverne Lee Keppen, 76, of Freeport, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1937, in Lena, the son of Donald and Neomi (Isenberger) Keppen. Laverne attended Lena High School. He married Betty Alber on Jan. 21, 1961, at St. Joseph Church in Freeport. He was a retired dairy farmer. He also was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Shannon, Knights of Columbus, Forreston Lions Club, and the Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Keppen of Freeport; son, Jon (Lori) Keppen of Chadwick; daughters, Linda Keppen of Freeport and Joanne Keppen of Houston; grandchildren, Cara (Matt) Vanella, Amber (Elliot) Wamsley, Phillip Barker, Ross Barker, and Matt Keppen; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Cole, Hunter, Kilee, and Eli; and sisters, Norma Jean Eilders of Freeport and Sharon Bessert of Monroe, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Neomi Keppen; and his daughter, Lorraine Keppen Balles.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m., Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 229 W. Washington Place, Freeport. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Schwarz Funeral Home in Freeport is handling arrangements.
