STERLING – Lois J. Hoover, 82, of Sterling, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Lois was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Sterling, the daughter of Lester and Louisa (Hackbarth) Pfundstein. She received her education in the Jordan and Sterling schools. She married Donald Bender on March 15, 1953, at West Jordan Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1979. She married Herbert Hoover on April 12, 1986. When they retired, Lois and Herbert moved to Hayward, Wis., on Round Lake. In 2007, they moved back to Dixon to be close to their children. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2008. Lois’ hobbies consisted of recycling used greeting cards, bowling, and golfing (once getting a hole-in-one). She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Mike) McSorley and Pamela (Dennis) Weigle; one son, Ron (Sheila) Bender; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Jose) Castillo and Marilyn Hoover; nine grandchildren, Jesse (Kathy) Davis, Nick (Jill) DeVos, Kori McSorley, Janece McSorley, Kristi (Bill) Henry, Chad (Alecia) Weigle, Lucas Bender, Kelsi Bender, and Hanna Kerley; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Florence Pfundstein.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Doris Reynolds; her brother, Donald Pfundstein; her baby boy, Michael, who died at birth; and her granddaughter, Ericka Kerley.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Frank Langholf, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo.  

A memorial has been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
