STERLING – Votes can be cast until Friday to help a former Sterling Park District employee win an Internet contest for outdoors gear.

Joseph “Ironman Joe” Pettorini, 63, grew up in Sterling, and worked for about 35 years at the park district. He now lives in Rhinelander, Wis., and competes in triathlons and marathons. Pettorini volunteers at the YMCA of the Northwoods in Rhinelander.

Pettorini is competing in Stormy Kromer’s Living Legend competition. The outdoors clothing company will award the grand prize winner $500 in Stormy Kromer gear, a feature in the company’s 2014 marketing materials, and a donation to a named charity. Pettorini’s charity is YMCA of the Northwoods.
