DIXON – Donald W. Cruse, 88, of Dixon, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 2, 1925, in Dixon, the son of Daniel and Florence (Yocum) Cruse. He was a farmer, and worked at Allied-Locke Industries for more than 25 years before retirement.

He married LaVerne Mueller on Oct. 23, 1945, in Amboy. She preceded him in death May 21, 2012.

Survivors include his children, Bill (Joyce) Cruse and Bonnie Brewer, both of Dixon, and Donna (Jim) Mershon of Byron; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andy) Accardi, Carla Cruse, Billi (Chris) Carson, and Marti (Kyle) Stacy; five great-grandchildren, Lara, Allison, and Jonathan Stacy, and Kaitlyn and Christopher Accardi; one sister, Jean Rock of Norwalk, Ohio;  and two brothers, Maurice “Pete” (Shirley) Cruse of Dixon and Roger (Betty Schutt) Cruse of Rock Falls.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie; a son, Martin; a granddaughter, Anna; and three brothers, Elwood, Milford “Mick,” and Daniel Jr. Cruse.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held, with burial of cremains at a later date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
