The Mendota Trojans took control of Friday’s Big Northern West matchup against the Oregon Hawks in the second quarter at the Blackhawk Center, and didn’t let up. Mendota won 53-40 in a battle between the two front-runners in the division.
Oregon (6-3, 3-1) was outscored 17-9 in the second quarter, leading to a 31-18 deficit at the break. Sam Lambrigtsen had 16 points for Oregon, while McKaylee Beeter and Emy Wright both had 10 points.
Ally Bromenshenkel scored 19 points for Mendota (9-1, 3-0).
AFC 57, Polo 39: The Marcos held a one-point lead after one quarter, but the Raiders went on a 23-9 run in the second quarter to gain control of an NUIC East game in Polo.
Allison Prestegaard paved the way with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, while Cassidy Koning had 12 points and six steals, and Krista Beach had 10 points for AFC (8-1, 3-1).
Keeley Meyer scored 12 points for Polo (1-8, 1-3).
Eastland 70, Warren 28: The Cougars outscored the Warriors 22-5 in the first quarter and never looked back in a NUIC West win in Lanark.
Lexis Macomber had 17 points for Eastland (8-0, 3-0), and Hannah Hake scored 16 points.
River Ridge-Scales Mound 62, West Carroll 30: The Thunder (2-5, 0-3) lost an NUIC West game in Savanna.
Faith Christian 38, Quad City Christian 20: Sarah Smith’s 11 points, four assists and four steals helped lead the Falcons to an NICC victory in Grand Detour.
Zoe Zigler added nine points and seven rebounds for Faith (5-4), which led 30-5 at halftime. Katie Cover chipped in six points and 11 boards, and Stacia Hamill scored four points and nabbed four steals.
