Rocket boys, girls lose; Hawk girls beat Lutheran

Missiles shoot down AFC

Milledgeville equaled its 2012-13 win total following a 95-88 victory against AFC on Tuesday in Ashton.

Caleb Skoog poured in 33 points to lead the Missiles (7-0, 2-0 NUIC East). He connected on six 3-pointers, with five of them coming in the second quarter.

Also for Milledgeville, Kameron DawTyne had 16 points, Blake Kappes had 14, Lucas Ebersole had 11 and Daniel Walker added 10.

Bret Gittleson hit six 3-pointers on his way to 29 points to lead the Raiders (4-2, 1-1). Troy Mairs finished with 26 points, Matt Gendusa had 17 and Kevin Kurz added 10.

Winnebago 72, Rock Falls 62: The Rockets hung tough on the road, but couldn’t rally past the Indians in their Big Northern West opener.

Daegan Wharff scored 15 points, Connor Cain added 12 points, and Cory McCallister had 11 for Rock Falls (3-3, 0-1).

Isaiah Yanni led Winnebago (4-0, 1-0) with 18 points.

Newman 65, Riverdale 47: John Payan paced a balanced attack with 15 points as the Comets beat the Rams in Port Byron.

Also for Newman (5-0, 1-0 Three Rivers North), Noah McCarty had 14 points, and Nate Terveer added 12.

Cole Solomon led Riverdale with 23 points, while Jake Gallerstedt added 10.

Hinckley-Big Rock 59, Amboy 23: Skylar Wheeler had 10 points for the Clippers (1-5) in a road loss to the Royals.

East Moline Christian 62, Faith Christian 33: Isaac Schuler’s 17 points weren’t enough to lift the Falcons to victory in the Quad Cities.

Logan Johnson and Ben Bierdeman added seven points apiece for Faith.

Girls basketball

Mendota 64, Rock Falls 48: The Rockets trailed 20-8 after one quarter and never caught up in a Big Northern West loss on the road.

Emily Sauer led the way for Rock Falls (4-5, 0-2) with 11 points and six rebounds. Chelsi Blair and Bailey Schrader added six points apiece, with Schrader grabbing four boards.

Amy Devitt had 23 points and five rebounds for the Trojans (8-1, 2-0).

Oregon 69, Lutheran 53: Sam Lambrigtsen poured in 30 points as the Hawks rolled past the Crusaders with a big second half.

Leading 28-24 at the break, Oregon (6-2, 3-0 Big Northern West) outscored Lutheran (6-1, 1-1) 41-29 after halftime.

Emy Wright added 15 points, Mal Sanders scored 10, and McKaylee Beeter chipped in nine for the Hawks.

Ashley Kerestes scored 17 points for Lutheran.

Eastland 67, East Dubuque 41: The Cougars had eight players score more than six points in a key NUIC West win in Lanark.

Lexis Macomber and Megan Janssen led the way for Eastland (7-0, 2-0) with 10 points each.

Abby Berryman had 13 points for East Dubuque (4-1, 2-1).

Aquin 60, Polo 40: Haley Chang tossed in 22 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Marcos in Freeport.

Alex Sterenberg led Polo (1-7, 1-2 NUIC East) with 12 points.

Faith Christian 30, Morningstar 18: Sarah Smith’s 14 points and seven rebounds led the Falcons to an NICC road victory.

Stacia Hamill added 11 rebounds and four steals, and Katie Cover pulled down six boards for Faith (4-3); both girls scored two points. Zoe Zigler chipped in six points.
