ROCK FALLS – John H. Cumby Sr., 80, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.

John was born March 26, 1933, in Pike County, the son of Frank and Rosie (Inman) Cumby. He married Linda Blankenship on Oct. 15, 1988. John worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling as a tractor operator for 32 years. He retired in 1993. He attended Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls. John enjoyed fishing and going to the casino.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, of Rock Falls; four daughters, Josephine (Dennis) Gaskill of Tampico, Vickie (Dennis) Huffman and Tammy (Mark) Naftzger, both of Rock Falls, and Pamela (Ed) Davis of Tampico; two sons, John (Cindy) Cumby Jr. of Laughlin, Nev., and Steven Cumby of Henry; one sister, Ethel Howard, one brother, James (Ruth Ann) Cumby, and one son-in-law, Mike Thomas, all of Rock Falls; seven grandchildren, Ryan, John III, Rosie, Eddy, Cody, Audrey and George; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Macie Thomas; one sister, Ida Abell; and three brothers, Tom, Bill and Don.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
