ROCKFORD (AP) — It's going to cost less than expected to expand a terminal at Rockford's airport.
It originally was estimated that the project at Chicago Rockford International Airport would cost about $37 million. But airport deputy director Amy Ott tells the Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/IO51aa) that it will now cost less than $20 million.
Plans call for a 20,000-square-foot addition. Airport officials say it's necessary because the current terminal can't handle passenger volume during peak travel periods. The airport had about 242,000 passengers in 2012.
Ott says construction could start next fall.
