Fore named to NUIC East first team
AFC senior outside hitter Lexie Fore has been named to the NUIC East All-Conference first team. She is the only Sauk Valley area player to be named to the first team for either NUIC East or NUIC West.
For a full list of all-conference selections from both divisions see B4.
White Sox sign
The White Sox signed former Royals right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino to a 1-year, $1.75-million contract.
Paulino opted to become a free agent rather than be outrighted to the Royals’ Triple-A Omaha in November. He has played for the Astros, Rockies and most recently the Royals, where he went 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts in 2012 before his season was cut short due to an elbow injury.
Cubs near naming new radio voice
The Chicago Cubs could announce a replacement for analyst Keith Moreland on their radio broadcasts within the next few days.
Rumored finalist include former Cub players Todd Hollandsworth and Ron Coomer.
Bryant named to
Top Prospects team
Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was named Monday to the Arizona Fall League’s 2013 Top Prospects Team.
Bryant, the second overall pick in the 2013 draft, led the AFL with six home runs while batting .364, and had reached base in 20 consecutive games for the Mesa Solar Sox.
No torn ligaments
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said that an MRI on Monday ruled out any torn ligaments and the dreaded Lisfranc injury in his right foot. Peterson left Sunday’s game against the Ravens with a foot sprain.
He also called Ravens fans the worst in the league, and blasted the officials for blowing “a million” calls.
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in the third quarter of their game against Cleveland on Sunday, NFL.com confirmed.
Gronkowski, 24, missed the first six games of the season recovering from multiple forearm surgeries.
