GRAND DETOUR – Bonnie J. May, 89, longtime resident of Grand Detour, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Heritage Square in Dixon. 

Bonnie was born Oct. 9, 1924, the daughter of Franklin and Bonnifred (Wilson) Frey. She graduated from Dixon High School in 1942 and attended Sauk Valley Community College. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon. She married Louis May on Feb. 10, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1979. Bonnie was employed by the civil service at Green River Ordinance Plant in Dixon during World War II from 1942 to 1946. She then owned and operated the Colonial Inn for many years before retiring.

She is survived by one son, Steven (Lisa) May of Urbandale, Iowa; one daughter, Lori (David) Swartz of Grand Detour; six grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Wittenauer, Hilary (Charlie) Thomas, and Ben Swartz, all of Dixon, Sarah May of Waukee, Iowa, Emily (Wade) McAtee of Urbandale, Iowa, and Dr. Brandon May of Des Moines, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren, Margaret Wittenauer, David Wittenauer, Joseph Wittenauer, Cole Thomas, and Adeline Thomas all of Dixon, and Ashlen McAtee of Urbandale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.  The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon.
