Marcos roll past Bulldogs

Polo bashes Durand; Fulton, Milledgeville stay undefeated

The Polo Marcos jumped out early and never looked back in an NUIC East victory at home Friday, downing Durand 70-40.

Max Simmons had 16 points, and AJ Dollmeyer added 14 for Polo (5-0, 1-0), which led 18-8 after one quarter and 33-16 at halftime. Brian Cavanaugh and Zach Quaco chipped in nine points apiece.

Fulton 47, River Ridge 35: Jason Osborn and Zach Barber each scored 10 points to help the Steamers to a win in Fulton.

Fulton, which also got eight points from Matt Dail, improves to 5-0 to start the season.

Burlington Central 51, Rock Falls 50: The Rockets dropped a nail-biter on the road, falling to 3-2 on the season.

North Boone 71, Oregon 59: The Hawks couldn't come back for a road victory in Poplar Grove, dropping to 2-4 on the season.

Milledgeville 65, Pecatonica 57: The Missiles remained unbeaten on the season, taking down Pec at home in their NUIC East opener to improve to 6-0.

AFC 72, Orangeville 62: The Raiders scored 30 points in the third quarter, and then had to hold on as Orangeville outscored them 20-5 in the fourth quarter for a NUIC East win at home.

Bret Gittleson hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points for AFC (4-1, 1-0). Forward Troy Mairs chipped in 21 points, and David Zinke had nine.

Orangeville's Bryce Brown made 17 of 19 free-throw attempts and scored 25 points for the Broncos (0-4, 0-1).

Eastland 60, Warren 37: The Cougars opened NUIC West play with a win over Warren at Lanark.

Dalton Shaner paved the way with 19 points, following by Blake Janssen's 11. Skylar Paulson added nine points for Eastland (1-1, 1-0).

East Dubuque 63, West Carroll 40: The Thunder trailed 21-4 after one period and never recovered in an NUIC West road loss.

Devon Hartley paced West Carroll (1-4, 0-1) with 18 points, and Trevor Jones added 12.
