Please return wreath stolen from cemetery

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

On Nov. 20, we placed our Christmas wreath and Christmas swag on our parents’ graves at the Chapel Hill Cemetery. On Nov. 27, we went to the graves to pay our respects for Thanksgiving to find that our large, red cardinal wreath had been stolen.

This wreath is a large, artificial evergreen wreath with a red resin cardinal sitting in the middle at the bottom, with red and white variegated poinsettias and a white, two-inch ribbon with cardinals throughout. It was on a large easel and was wired (heavy gauge) to a green steel fence post.

The thief or thieves tried to steal this wreath last year after stealing the evergreen wreath with the red and white poinsettias.

Last year, the thief or thieves didn’t succeed with stealing the cardinal wreath, so they came back this year.

We cannot believe you cut the heavy gauge wire off and stole our wreath. We cannot believe whoever you are that you have to steal from the dead. You have broken our hearts more than you will ever realize.

Please return our loved one’s cardinal wreath.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
