Business Notebook: Sinnissippi Centers kicks off Oregon project

Ground was broken Dec. 4 on Sinnissippi Centers’ new 6,400-square-foot office in Oregon.

The new building will be at 100 Jefferson St., replacing the 125 S. Fourth St. location.

The new facility will have 11 offices, two group rooms, and a play therapy room for children. The additions will help the behavioral health care center better serve the area, Patrick Phelan, Sinnissippi Centers president and CEO, said in a news release.

“The new building will allow us great flexibility to provide group services and to meet the needs of both our adult and child/adolescent population,” Phelan said. “Improved waiting rooms, reception areas, offices and other facilities will provide our clients the type of environment that is conducive to treatment and is welcoming to the public.”

Phelan said space constraints have been an issue for quite some time. The extra square footage also is needed in anticipation of an influx of clients because of increased coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

“The new office is the result of several years of planning and development to meet these increasing needs for services in Oregon and in the rest of Ogle County,” Phelan said.

The new Oregon facility will be named in honor of Chet Kobel, a longtime board member for SPF Corporation, the entity that is involved with overseeing the construction of new Sinnissippi Centers facilities.

Demolition of existing buildings that were on the site was done in November. The target date for construction completion is June or July. A formal groundbreaking ceremony and tours of the new facility will be scheduled later.

Sinnissippi Centers serves Carroll, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside counties. In addition to Oregon, there are offices in Dixon, Sterling, Mount Carroll, and Rochelle. The agency provides substance abuse screening and treatment services. It also offers treatment for mental illness and substance use disorders, individual and family counseling, early childhood mental health and nearly 30 other programs and services.
