Oregon bowlers split: girls win, guys lose

Cougars open with loss

The Eastland Cougars opened their season on the road against some pretty stiff competition Wednesday, falling to the Winnebago Indians 73-68.

It was an improvement from a year ago, when the Cougars (0-1) lost a 64-47 decision to Winnebago in Lanark – one of just three regular-season losses for Eastland on the way to a fourth-place finish at the Class 1A state tournament.

Boys bowling

South Beloit 3,051, Oregon 2,983: The Hawks (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season against the SoBos at Viking Lanes in South Beloit.

Joe Miranda and Justin Provo each rolled 526 series to lead Oregon. A.J. Nordman had the top game with a 202.

Mike Murphy led South Beloit with a 622 series.

Girls bowling

Oregon 2,782, South Beloit 2,087: Abigail Scheidecker rolled a 505 series, and Victoria Barnhart added a 502 as the Hawks topped the SoBos.

Alyson Scheidecker had the top game for Oregon, a 210.
