Sterling High School October Student of the Month Nick Abele would like to take this opportunity to offer his snow removal services. The profits are for a good cause: college tuition.

Nick Abele, 17, a senior at Sterling High School, is an October Student of the Month. He is the son of Dave and Karen Abele. His brother is Jonathan, 14, a freshman at Sterling High School.

Favorite class: I have several classes I really like this year, but the new CEO class is probably my favorite, because we learn by actually going to different businesses and listening to the owners or managers who give us advice about how to be successful entrepreneurs.

Top teacher: I’ve had many good teachers at Sterling High School, but Alan Stewart (AP Economics), Mike LeMay (sociology) and Alexis Rivera (pre-calculus) are some of my favorites, because they know how to make their subjects really interesting.

Extracurricular activities:  Golf, swimming, baseball, National Honor Society, Key Club, Junior Rotarian, Explorers, Peer Jury, Science Club and the SHS Mentoring Program. I also volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

After graduation: I plan to go to Western Illinois University to major in criminal justice and earn an MBA. My goal is to go into federal law enforcement.

Paycheck: For the last 2 years, I have worked at Emerald Hill Golf Course. I also run my own landscaping, mowing, and snow removal business called Nick’s Mow ‘n’ Snow.

Best Friend:  My closest friends are David Gottemoller and Brady Siegmund.  We have a lot of fun together, and I know I can rely on them if I ever need anything.

Favorite musical group: Florida Georgia Line.

Favorite TV show: “Hawaii 5-0”.

Favorite outdoor activities: Riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles, skiing, snowboarding, playing hockey, kayaking, and fishing.

Favorite food: Culver’s hamburgers.

Biggest fear: Snakes.

What makes your blood boil? Bad drivers.

What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Rap.

Where are some of the places you like to hang out? I like to be outside as much as possible, but no specific place.

Survival guide: What is the key to surviving high school? Time management. Balancing sports, clubs, activities, community service and homework isn’t easy, but you can do it, if you plan ahead and stick to a schedule.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Diligent. I work hard to earn good grades and to make my business successful, so I can help pay for college.

Personal trivia: I know how to surf and play the guitar.

Dream job: If you could try any job for one day, what would it be? I would like to be either an ATF or an FBI agent.

Trading spaces: I would like to go to Alaska for the wildlife and the scenery. I think it would be fun to hike and fish there.

Shout out to: Anyone who needs mowing, landscaping or snow removal services.
