AMBOY – A benefit on Sunday will help a Franklin Grove woman in her fight against colorectal cancer.
Linda “Lou” Powers Riley, 49, was diagnosed a year ago with stage 4 colorectal cancer. She will undergo surgery and another procedure Dec. 13 at Loyola Hospital in Chicago.
Linda and her husband, Tony, have three sons, Cameron, 24, Evan, 20, and Ashton, 19, all of whom live in Franklin Grove. Linda is the daughter of Jim Powers of Amboy.
The Rileys face a monthly co-pay of $1,603 for Linda’s treatment, and have large gasoline expenses. They also will need to stay in a Chicago motel because of Linda’s surgery.
The benefit will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Parish Hall, 32 N. Jones St., Amboy. The cost will be $5 at the door. A silent auction, live auction, Christmas cookie sale and 50/50 drawing will take place. A Christmas card shower will be accepted, with gift and gas cards welcome.
A tree of love also will be available. Ribbons can be bought for $5 each, and a message to Riley can be written on the ribbon. The ribbons will decorate the tree, which will be given to Riley after the benefit.
Auction items or cookies can be dropped off at Morts Tap, 65 S. East Ave., Amboy, or at the parish hall from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
