MATTOON (AP) — The government's repairs to the troubled HealthCare.gov website are making life easier for Illinois enrollment counselors who have been trying to help people sign up for insurance under President Barack Obama's health care law.
In the central Illinois city of Mattoon, enrollment counselor Valerie Spencer says she noticed the insurance shopping website gradually improving starting two weeks ago. She and her team at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Center, a small regional hospital, finally signed up six successful enrollees through the federal site in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
Now they are lining up appointments for others who want to meet the next big deadline of Dec. 23. People must sign up by that date if they want their coverage to start at the first of the year.
