MUSCODA, Wis. – Elizabeth “Betty” Venhuizen, 92, of Muscoda, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at University Hospital in Madison, Wis., as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born May 15, 1921, in Mora, Minn., the daughter of John B. and Christine (Wilkens) Vandermyde. Betty married Fred “Fritz” Venhuizen on Nov. 14, 1942, in Minneapolis. Betty and Fritz farmed together for many years in Illinois and Wisconsin. Betty enjoyed the outdoors, especially bird watching, gardening, and watching the flowers grow. She was a member of Blue River Valley Church, and was devoted in her Bible readings. Betty loved every moment she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by three sons, Roger (Gail) Venhuizen of Muscoda, David (Barbara) Venhuizen of Austin, Texas, and Steven (Jeannine) Venhuizen of Polo; five granddaughters: Jennifer, Jodi, Jeanna, Erica, and Katrina; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, John W. (Darlene) Vandermyde of Minneapolis; sisters, Janice (Bob) DeVries of Fridley, Minn., Mary (Ollie) Fredricks of Anoka, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Don St. Germain of Maple Wood, Minn., DuWayne Vos of Mount Carroll, and John Hamstra of Sterling; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Venhuizen and Phyllis Venhuizen, both of Morrison; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz, son, Ronald; and two sisters, Sharon St. Germain and Christine Vos.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. today and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Blue River Valley Church in Muscoda, with Paul Fries, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Muscoda. Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service in Richland Center, Wis., is handling arrangements.
The family has established a memorial for the missions.
