Christmas Walk to include tree lighting and snowball drop
Streets will be closed starting at 5 p.m.
DIXON – Santa Claus, reindeer, hot chocolate and cookies will be in downtown Dixon on Friday night.
The Christmas Walk will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., starting with a tree-lighting ceremony at KSB Hospital’s main entrance.
Other events include pictures with Santa at the mini mall on East First Street, cookie decorating at The Next Picture Show, and Hot Wheels races at Sherwin Williams.
Several downtown streets will close, starting about 5 p.m. Friday, said Main Street Executive Director Josh Albrecht. Parking will be available at all KSB Hospital lots and at the Loveland Community House.
Loveland will have its open house the same night, said Executive Director Steve Wilson. It will include live music, food, refreshments and a silent auction.
“There’s plenty of parking and a two-block walk to the [Christmas Walk] festivities,” Wilson said. “You can make Loveland a first or last stop.”
Eight Christmas trees, a Santa Claus collection, and a Christmas village designed by local resident Bob Burke will be auctioned at Loveland, Wilson said. Sale proceeds will go to one of six charities the winning bidder chooses.
Among the biggest attractions at the Christmas Walk, Albrecht said, is the Giant Snowball Drop, which includes prizes ranging from candy to a $500 downtown shopping spree.
The snowball drop will be at 8 p.m. at First Street and Hennepin Avenue.
