Celia Chavez Vasquez

ROCK FALLS – Celia Chavez Vasquez, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Rock Falls Civic Plaza. She worked in the cafeterias of Mexican public schools.

Celia was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Mexico City, the daughter of Rufio and Julia (Vasquez) Chavez. She married Nicholas Sanchez in 1951, in Mexico City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1998.

Survivors include five daughters, Martha (Daniel) Corona Sr. of Rock Falls, Maria Elena, Lidia, Guadalupe, and Claudia Sanchez, all of Mexico City; one son, Leopoldo Sanchez of Mexico City; two sisters, Gudelia Chavez and Maria Eugenia Chavez; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Eloisa, Cristina, and Raquel Chavez; and three brothers, Martin, Filiberto, and Fabian Chavez.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be at a later date in Mexico.
