Alvera D. Forney

ASHTON – Alvera D. Forney, 84, of Ashton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, in Franklin Grove. Alvera worked as a secretary for Ashton High School and Ray J. Forney Inc.

Alvera was born Nov. 3, 1929, to Jess and Mary Ann (Griffith) Partington in Murphysboro. She married Ray J. Forney on Jan. 1, 1950, in Dixon. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Ashton.

Alvera is survived by her husband, Ray; three grandchildren, Kyle Mahaffey, Megan Mahaffey, and Kirsten Mahaffey; two brothers, John (June) Partington of Harmon and Jesse (Ronda) Partington of Dixon; four sisters, Lila Lee (John) Burhenn of Franklin Grove, Betty (Edwin) North of Dixon, Janice (Arlan) Ayers of Chandler, Ariz., and Joyce (Duane) Burkhart of Dixon; and sister-in-law, Laurita Partington of Dixon.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita J. Mahaffey, on Sept. 19, 2004; and two brothers, James and Patrick Partington. 

Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, and the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church of Ashton, with the Rev. Sang Hun Han, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Ashton Cemetery. Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Methodist Church of Ashton.
