Locals participate in all-star matches

Four local players were among the 40 seniors who played in the Northern Illinois Senior All-Star Volleyball Showcase on Saturday in Rockford.

Oregon’s Shannon Cullen
and Polo’s Alli Reeder helped Team Pink, coached by Oregon’s Faith Watson, win the title at the four-team event. Oregon’s Cydney Long and Jordan Wilken played on Team Orange.

BASKETBALL

Richmond sentenced to 3 years

Former Illinois Illini and Sauk Valley Predator Jereme Richmond was sentenced to 3 years in prison Monday, convicted of harassment of a witness, and for making threatening comments and gestures to a probation officer stemming from an April 25 incident.

Richmond has been in Lake County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond ever since.

Vikings release CB after arrest

Minnesota released fourth-year cornerback A.J. Jefferson on Monday, just hours after he was arrested for domestic assault.

The 25-year-old Jefferson was arrested at his home by the Eden Prairie (Minn.) police department before 7 a.m., responding to a call from a 23-year-old woman who reported that she was assaulted about 4:30 a.m.
