Girls basketball: Reiley, Prophets shoot past hosts for third in Oregon tournament
Corrie Reiley shot Prophetstown past the hosting Hawks 62-53 on Saturday in the third-place game of the Oregon tournament.
Reiley hit all six of her free throws – part of a 14-for-17 performance by the Prophets (3-1) – and scored seven of her 18 points during the second period, during which Prophetstown enjoyed a 20-11 advantage.
Emy Wright scored 23 points and went 11-for-14 at the stripe, and McKaylee Beeter added 17 for Oregon (2-2). The Hawks shot 15-for-21 at the free-throw line as a team.
Heather Strike and Clare Kramer added 11 points apiece for the Prophets.
Amboy 49, Fulton 26: Four Clippers scored at least eight points to help lock down fifth place.
Kennedy Dinges (14 points), Micaela McCoy (11), Kaitlyn Liebing (10) and Sydney Wilhelm (8) helped Amboy (2-2) seize a 24-11 halftime lead. Chelsea Lesniewski led Fulton (1-3) with 12 points.
Milledgeville 34, Polo 27: Taylor Grenoble’s sharpshooting and Courtney Swalve’s presence inside helped the Missiles to 11th place.
Grenoble hit a 3 and was 6-for-9 at the free throw line for 15 points, while Swalve shot 5-for-6 at the stripe and poured in 13. Keeley Meyer led Polo (0-5) with eight points.
Milledgeville (2-3) led just 24-22 heading into the fourth, in which Grenoble and Swalve scored all 10 of the Missiles’ points.
Lutheran 58, Prophetstown 48: The Prophets fell behind 16-7 after one quarter and didn’t catch up in a semifinal loss to the Crusaders.
Reiley paced Prophetstown with 17 points, while Kramer added 16.
Lutheran’s Baillie McGirk led all scorers with 19.
Mendota 61, Oregon 58: The Hawks rallied from a 39-20 halftime deficit, but couldn’t quite catch the Trojans in a semifinal defeat.
Sam Lambrigtsen led Oregon with 27 points, while Beeter and Wright added 10 each.
Amy Devitt scored 22 points to lead Mendota.
Pecatonica 35, Amboy 34: Dinges and Liebing each had 10 points for the Clippers in a loss to the Indians.
Erin Seipts led Pecatonica with 11 points.
Rockford Christian 45, Fulton 21: Rachel Beiermann scored six points for the Steamers in a loss to the Eagles.
Jayla Penney paced Christian with 16 points.
Ottawa Marquette 36, Milledgeville 26: Grenoble scored nine points for the Missiles in a loss to the Crusaders.
Bailey McGrogan and Kendall Kaufman each had seven points for Marquette.
Hall 50, Polo 34: Keeley Meyer led the Marcos with 11 points in a loss to the Red Devils.
Ellen Herrmann led Hall with 16 points, and Brenna Faletti added 13.
