No-win situation in abuse case

I wish to extend my sympathy to Tim Boles [VIVA! Performing Arts School director of drama]. He was caught in a no-win situation, like Joe Paterno.

He learned that one person had abused a young man. This is a quandary that no one ought to face.

Morally, if the accusation is true and he does nothing, he is seen as aiding the perpetrator.

On the other hand, if the accusation is untrue and he takes the proper action, he will have destroyed an innocent man’s reputation.

Paterno had numerous reports of Sandusky’s criminal interaction with boys. His condemnation is earned and is appropriate. He was doing it for his and Penn State’s reputation. It went on for years.

Boles learns of one hearsay account. He does not know what to do.

All men are not heroes. All men do not know instantly what to do. Boles hesitated.

I do not know what I would do if faced with the same circumstance. I’d like to think I would immediately report the report. I cannot guarantee that I would.
