Ogle County sheriff suffers Bell's palsy

OREGON – Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn announced Thursday that he has been diagnosed with Bell's palsy.

Usually, symptoms start to improve within a few weeks. Complete recovery is expected in 6 months.

Harn returned to work immediately with no restrictions, according to a news release.

Bell's palsy causes sudden weakness in facial muscles, making half of your face droop, according to the Mayo Clinic. Your smile is one-sided, and your eye on that side resists closing.

For most people, Bell's palsy is temporary, the clinic says.

Harn, in his first term as sheriff, has announced he will be a candidate for re-election in 2014.
