Rockets improve to 2-0

Bailey Schrader scored 15 points and Chelsi Blair 10 to lead Rock Falls past Stillman Valley 56-44 in a Sauk Valley Shootout matchup on Tuesday at Rock Falls.

The Rockets (2-0) opened up a 17-2 lead after one quarter, but Stillman Valley (0-2) fought back to tie the score at 35-all heading to the fourth quarter. Rock Falls outscored the Cardinals 21-9 in the final period.

Dallas Clevenger added nine points for the
Rockets.

Sherrard 57, Newman 28: Mary Alice Oswalt scored 11 points for the Comets in a Sauk Valley Shootout loss to the Tigers in Sherrard.

Chelsey Crippen scored 22 points for Sherrard.

Morrison 47, United 11: Lakin Goodman scored 11 points, and Ashley Greul added 10 as the Fillies (1-0) won at the Galva Tournament.

United scored just one point in the second half.

Erie 46, Monmouth-Roseville 44: Rachel Cobert poured in 18 points, as the Cardinals (1-1) won a tight one at the Ridgewood Tournament.

Orangeville 44, AFC 41: Allison Prestegaard had 11 rebounds, eight points and four blocked shots for the Raiders (0-1) in a home loss to the Broncos.

Also for AFC, Hope Friday had 11 points, while Krista Beach added eight rebounds, six points and six steals.

Milledgeville 44, Pecatonica 42: Kayleigh Leddy scored 14 points, and Taylor Grenoble added 13 as the Missiles (1-0) held off the Indians in Milledgeville.

Eastland 7 2, Winnebago 37: The Cougars had no trouble in their season opener with a road victory agains the
Indians.

Boys bowling

DeKalb 3,532, Dixon 3,526: The Dukes topped the Barbs in two of three games, but a decisive win in the second game lifted DeKalb to the overall victory.

Michael Belluzzi had a 646 series for DeKalb, which took the second game, 1,224-1,133. Will Todtz added a 635 series for the Barbs.

Brandon Hamburg (636), Keegan Longan (622) and Lucas
Bonnette (602) cracked the 600-mark for the Dukes.

Women’s basketball

Sauk Valley 62, South Suburban 40: Morgan Dean poured in 27 points, and the Skyhawks pulled away from a 21-all tie at the half at South Holland.

Sauk (5-1) also got 13 points from Sheldeen Joseph and 10 from Aleena Hammelman. Joseph also had eight steals, while Hammelman had four assists and three steals.

Teammate Jordan Giddings had 17 rebounds, eight points and six assists.
