AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – BorgWarner has introduced the world’s first electronic limited slip differential designed for the front transaxle of a front-wheel drive vehicle on the 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI with Performance Pack.

Known as front cross differential technology, the system enhances vehicle traction, handling and stability without sacrificing engine power. Under certain driving conditions, the FXD technology’s enhanced vehicle performance approaches that of an all-wheel drive system, but costs less and offers better fuel economy.

In other company news, the 100th image on the BorgWarner Trophy, featuring 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan, was unveiled at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. Set in a checkerboard pattern with the winner’s name, victory year, and average speed under each sculpted head, the trophy features the 3-dimensional sterling silver image of every Indianapolis 500 winner dating back to Ray Harroun in 1911.

The trophy stays on permanent display at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. Both sterling silver replicas of the trophy will be presented during the Automotive News World Congress Jan. 15 in Detroit.

BorgWarner operates a plant in Dixon.
