Sylvester R. Barton

DIXON – Sylvester Ralph Barton, 76, of Dixon, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He was a custodian at Dixon High School, retiring in 1999.

He was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Dixon, the son of Sylvester Mason and Lucy Anna (Bentz) Barton. He served in the Army. He married Betty Johnson on Sept. 22, 1956, in Amboy. She preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2012. He was a member of Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Martinez of Dixon and Sally (Michael) Iacomini of Brunswick, Ga.; one sister, Betty (Roland) Falk of Dixon; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert C. Barton; and two sisters, Ruth Zigler and Helen Minnier.

There will be no visitation. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military graveside honors conducted by the combined veterans organizations, will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
