Harris’ double-double lifts Warriors to win

Maike leads West Carroll to season-opening victory over Polo

Kiarra Harris opened the season with a 19-point, 12-rebound, six-assist performance to lead Sterling to a 49-20 win Monday at Stillman Valley in the first game of the Sauk Valley Shootout.

Kaitlyn Bauer added nine points for Sterling, with teammates Halie Robinson and Gabby Sandoval adding seven apiece. Sandoval also had five assists.

The Warriors led 10-8 after one quarter before outscoring the Cardinals 19-4 in the second quarter and 20-6 in the third quarter.

Sherrard 55, Dixon 37: Despite the 19-point performance of Brooke Bailey, the Duchesses opened with a lopsided loss at Sherrard in the Sauk Valley Shootout.

Sherrard led 19-11 after one quarter, 31-18 at the half and 42-31 after three quarters. Chelsea Crippen led the Tigers with 18 points.

West Carroll 54, Polo 37: Abby Maike scored 19 points to lead the Thunder past the Marcos in Savanna.

Polo led 11-7 after one quarter and 21-20 at the half. West Carroll went up 35-31 after three quarters, then outscored the Marcos 19-6 in the fourth quarter.

Hayley Guilinger added 12 points and Tre Baisden 11 for the Thunder. KeeLey Meyer paced Polo with 18 points. Jozi Grobe added 10.


Ridgewood 44, Erie 27: The Cardinals did not have a scorer with more than six points in their season-opening loss.

Ridgewood led 9-7 after one quarter, 20-11 at the half and 30-20 after three quarters.


Putnam County 49, Bureau Valley 35: The Storm fell behind 14-2 after one quarter en route to dropping its opener.

Nicole Bornsheur scored nine points to pace BV, which also got six points apiece from Irini Petros and Val Reuter.

Danela Pavlovich and Stephanie Wilson led Putnam County with 14 points apiece.
