Robert J. Brophy

DIXON – Robert J. Brophy, 82, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. 

He was born May 25, 1931, in Tampico, the son of Thomas and Anna (Brandau) Brophy. He married Ann M. Walsh on Feb. 17, 1951, in Dixon. He farmed in the Lee County area, owned and operated Brophy Oil Co., and worked for the City of Dixon Water Treatment Plant for 15 years before retiring in 1992. He was an Army veteran who served in the Korean War. Robert was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon; Knights of Columbus Council 690, Fr. Boland Assembly 4th Degree; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 540; and American Legion Post 12.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Kathleen (Ken Morrison) Cecchetti, and a son, Michael (Natalie Wendt) Brophy, all of Dixon; four grandchildren, Kelli, Lauren and Teresa Cecchetti, and Steven Richards; four great-grandchildren, Tya, Zayden, Savana, and Sawyer; and family friend, Michael Pauk.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Donald Brophy.

Robert’s unconditional and immense love was reflected in the joy he took in his family and friends, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Revs. Antoni Kretowicz, pastor, and Kenneth Stachyra concelebrating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. 

A memorial has been established.
