Thank you for success of Crop Walk

Published: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

We would like to thank our committee and all the walkers and volunteers who made our Crop Walk another success this year. We were blessed with a beautiful day to walk, and we raised almost $8,000.

Even though the economy is not very good, we raised more money this year than we did last year. We had close to 100 walkers again this year, with two more churches joining us. A lot of hardworking people showed us again how wonderful this community is at helping the less fortunate. Again this year, 25 percent of our proceeds will go to the Sauk Valley Food Bank.

It is our prayer that even more people will join us next year to help us in our quest to end hunger in the world. In so many Third World countries, people have to walk for many miles to get water every day just to survive. Church World Service is working to end this, and many more struggles for those who are in need. Remember that we walk because they walk.

Note to readers: Wendy Bley and Sue Insley, co-coordinators, are members of First Christian Church of Rock Falls.

Reader Poll

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
