Illinois marks Veterans Day with ceremonies
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Ceremonies and memorials are scheduled across Illinois to mark Veterans' Day.
In Chicago four-star Gen. Robert Cone will speak at the city's Veterans' Day ceremony. Cone is the commander over the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. The event is scheduled for Monday morning at Soldier Field.
Other cities, including Aurora, plan Veterans' Day parades. In Springfield the parade will go to the Illinois Capitol and there will be a ceremony afterward in the rotunda.
And lawmakers will be making appearances too. U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk will be in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove. He plans to give World War II veteran George Boesen of Arlington Heights the medals he earned for his service but never received.
