Arrest made in robbery at Sterling eatery

STERLING – A Rock Falls woman was arrested Thursday in connection with a robbery that occurred last month at Don Pedro’s restaurant, 2401 East Lincolnway.

About 3 p.m. Oct. 26, Kelly L. Mewhirter, 36, entered the business and, implying she had a weapon, demanded money, police said. She got an undisclosed amount of cash after threatening violence, police said.

Sterling Police Lt. Doug Fargher attributed her arrest to “good old-fashioned police work.”

Mewhirter has been convicted of four previous felonies in Whiteside County: aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, aggravated DUI, and driving with a revoked license.

She is in Whiteside County Jail on $200,000 bond and will appear in Whiteside County Court today.
