ASHTON – Stanwood C. Griffith, 87, of Ashton, went to be with his maker on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at his home.

Stan was born April 5, 1926, in Shabbona, to Stanwood J. and Betty (Wingert) Griffith. He married Frances Spangler in 1949. He served in the Army Air Force as part of the 79th Fighter Group in Europe in World War II. He played bassoon in the University of Illinois Concert Band, and for nearly 10 years in the Rockford Symphony.

Survivors include his wife of Ashton; two sons, Alan Lee (Janet) Griffith and Dr. Mark D. (Ann) Griffith; and four grandchildren, John, Anne, Nathaniel, and Carolyn Griffith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Edward Griffith.

Stanwood gave his body to science. There will be no funeral services. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Gideon Bible Society and Ashton Bible Church.
