Marines to celebrate birthday Saturday

Published: Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

POLO – The Marine Corps' 238th birthday will be celebrated by the Dixon Area Marine Corps League Detachment at 4 p.m. Saturday at Just Us Place, 601 N. Union Ave.

The public is invited to participate in the program, which will honor Staff Sgt. Justus Bartlett of Polo, who died in 2010 in Afghanistan.

Marines observe their birthday each year by sharing a cake, which is cut by a sword as a reminder that they are a band of warriors who are committed to carrying a sword so that the nation may live in peace.
