STERLING – John H. “Jack” Egan, 90, of Sterling, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.

John was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Deer Grove, the son of Frank and Margaret (Trainor) Egan. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Smith on Sept. 23, 1942, in Tampico. They recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. He farmed for many years in the Prairieville area.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Sterling; a son, Richard Egan of Toledo, Ohio; his daughters, Kathryn (Lynn) Heffelfinger and Marilyn (Michael) Frazier, both of Sterling, and Jacqueline (Scott) McConnell of Beloit, Wis.; grandchildren, Brian Heffelfinger, Susan Nag, Michael Ford Frazier, Marten Frazier, Emily Henderson, and Kelley McConnell; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George (Eva) Egan, Paul (Helen) Egan, and Leo (Marge) Egan; and four sisters, Mary (Bob) Kitson, Sara (Lloyd) Henry, Alice (Pete) Dempsey, and Theresa (Wayne) Peach. 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., with the rosary recited at 1:45 p.m., Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Bruce Ludeke officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the National Down Syndrome Foundation.
