STERLING – A pretrial conference for a Sterling police officer charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery was delayed Friday in Whiteside County Court.

Authorities say that on Aug. 10, Mike Henry, a detective with the Sterling Police Department, was involved in a fight at Johnny’s Bar and Grill in Sterling. During the fight, according to court documents, Henry struck another man in the head with his hand.

The case was transferred to state police immediately and is being handled by Thomas Brown, a special prosecutor, to avoid any conflict of interest.

Henry next will be in court Nov. 22.
