Joy in buggy rides to see grandmother

I remember mom pushing us kids in the big baby buggy from Fairview south of U.S. Route 30 in Rock Falls, then down 12th Avenue, continuing north over the bridge to Sterling. The overpass wasn’t built yet.

She’d push us two in the buggy, walking over the railroad tracks in front of the mill. They were so bumpy. The view inside the mill was so scary to us little kids. We’d continue on Avenue G to West Lefevre and on to Grandma’s home just a few more blocks away.

Grandma had a lot of land and a couple small buildings on her property.

In one of them, we used to search for treasures in the attic. We’d swing on the willow tree branches and on the rope swing.

But the best part was just seeing our grandma. That buggy had a lot of miles on it. They don’t make buggies like that anymore.
