DES PLAINES – Jane (neé Hasselman) Kerwin passed away on her birthday, Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in Des Plaines.

She was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Deer Grove, the daughter of Carl and Stella Hasselman. She was the loving wife of John “Jack” Kerwin. He preceded her in death in July 2010. She dedicated her life to her work, which mostly was customer service. She worked until the age of 72, when she retired to care for her ailing husband of 25 years. Her hobbies were reading and watching movies. 

Jane leaves behind three stepchildren, Sue (Rick) Christensen, Michael (Laura) Kerwin, and Greg (Debbie) Kerwin; a niece, Peggy Downey; two nephews, Allen and Tom Downey; plus her five nieces whom she adored, Mary Jane (Dale) Moyer, Kathy (Jim) Daily, Sally (Joe) Clark, Nancy (Mike) Fecht, and Amy Devine; Jeannie Jeffries; and many stepgrandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Kay Krolls; her parents; two sisters, Mary Downey and Dorothy Devine; a stepson, Jack Kerwin Jr.; a stepgrandson, Daniel Kerwin; and two nephews, Ted Downey and Chris Clark.

A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday and a life celebration service at 5 p.m. Monday at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling. Inurnment will be beside her husband at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Indian Trails Library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling, IL 60090.
