DAR gives award to BVHS student

MANLIUS - Katelyn DeBrock is the 2013-14 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award winner from Bureau Valley High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer DeBrock.

The award is sponsored by the Princeton chapter of the National Society-Daughters of the American Revolution. The program has been place on the national advisory list of contest and activities for 2014 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Faculty and senior class members chose the winner based on dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. DeBrock has been on the honor roll throughout high school and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior.

She is involved in Spanish Club, Family and Consumer Science Club, newsletter staff, chorus, Cooking Club, and the English Lab Tutor Program. She also was a nominee of the Elks Teen of the Month for October. She is involved in various church activities and volunteers at Freedom House and PADS.

She plans to attend Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon and transfer to a university to study accounting.
