STERLING – Ruth E. Purvis, 81, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born April 14, 1932, in Sterling, the daughter of John and Alma (Ellsworth) Covel. She married Russell Purvis on Oct. 7, 1950, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1998. She absolutely loved working outside in her yard. Ruth was a member of Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls, and loved being active in the church. She worked at Wahl Clipper as an assembler for 43 years. Ruth enjoyed playing bingo with her sister, walking every day at the mall, drinking coffee with her “coffee clutch” at McDonald’s, and going out to dinner, where she always ordered chicken. She also loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan (Steve Hefton) Linton of Hanna City and Bobbie Froeter and Debra (Rick) Barton, both of Sterling; one sister, Florence Brockman of Sterling; 11 grandchildren, Danny Joseph (Kate) Ivey, Amie Sue Ivey, Ryan Joel Linton, Kory Russell (Jamie) Froeter, Richard Jefferson (Kit) Barton Jr., Eric William (Nicole) Barton, Gregory Paul (Kelly) Barton, Michael Robert (Kelli) Barton, Ashley Elizabeth Barton, Kerri Lynn (Jason) Dobyns, and Samantha Sue Skinner; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Kathy Skinner; two sisters, Dorothy Long and Margaret Briggs; and one son-in-law, Robert Froeter.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Harvest Time Bible Church.
